Hello amazing people of the world.

I just read this.

And thought. Yes. We are all icebergs huh.. all complicated beings. With so much going on. The irony being. I’m going to share some more of my life with you here. My….creative life I guess ….for yes I am swamped in glorious joyous creative funtimes.

This newsletter is a way to keep in touch with my Quirky Voices goings on. If ya wanna! My voice acting, my writing and editing and producing and courses and adventttuuurrressss and….general creative shenanigans.

So this month….August 2022… has been one of immense emotions. None more so than a few of the pods I’m involved in. If you haven’t found it already, and have a love of drama of yore, Beyond Shakespeare release a version of a Chester play. Produced by me and my amazing pal Fiona Thraille and starring some absolutely stellar folks…Méabh De Brun, Emily C A Snyder, Fiona Mackinnon and KARIM Kronfli as Jesus and Robert Cudmore as Satan….no I’m not sure why KARIM defaults to capitals…probably his amazing booming fabulous voice…..we had us some fun anyways and you can find that link…here.

That will take you to the Spoilers EP wherein the fabulous Robert Crighton of Beyond Shakespeare takes you through the text and some meanings of word and yes if shit really does mean shit….and really delves into interpretation and more. And …v excited to say….this was a Dashingly Quirky Collaboration. Me and Fiona Thraille of Dashing Onions getting together once more to bring some creative joyous to the world with people we love and feel inspired by.

I mean. That’s what the indie scene is about isn’t it? Funtimes.

Now…yesterday we released Oz9 podcast episode 77. This podcast is an absolute blast to work on. Shannon K Perry as the writer is just such an amazingly funny, poignant, downright hilarious person. Consistently. Like. Seriosuly…so talented and blooming lovely and humble to boot. So generous in her sharing of the Funtime jokes for all cast but oh, when she hits those emotional moments, it will make you cry! This EP was so full of hilarious and of truly sad. The moments when it sounds like folks are crying are because…they are actually crying. This was a true love letter for the end of a dearly beloved character …and the last episode for an actor we really really love very much who left because they just needed to go get on with more…groovy theatrical things and more IRL fun. So. Listen for yourself. That emotion is genuine….

Oz9 EP 77

I dialogue edit for that show now. Full disclosure…because, after the tragic loss of Richard Nadolny, Shannon’s partner…I could not bare/bear? bare….for her to have to edit his voice. So I made room, and actually have truly been enjoying doing that. Like. Really. The performances from the cast are always amazing, and it is so so hard to chose from their three takes of each line. And nothing more satisfying than splicing together a few bits from several different lines to get those rhythms for the punchline working or…just are the right melody fo the line hum in a way my brain thinks works best.

My editing I think is improving and my knowhow of what Reaper can do is growing. I make lots of mistakes and probably do things a little round the houses and there are stilll a gazillion things I don’t know how to do, but. I’m having fun. And I’m actually quite proud of the few eps I have done so far in collaboration. The secret to this shows success though (3000 ish downloads a day🎉) is Shannon’s briliant writing, and the cast being amazing, and now added Oliver Morris’ beautifully nuanced sound design. And John Faleys music. It’s a super team, and if you haven’t heard Oz9 yet, and want a groovy fun escapist anarchic listen, jump in. It’s funny, rather quite bonkers, and, has a wonderful warm warm heart. It’s like a hub of characters in a podcast you’ll come to know and love.

Can’t wait to see what Shannon does for the Season finale….and…then….season…5.

Coming out….Saturday this week! Launch party ahoy! (We’re actually going Ona Cyclone holiday together..how mad and exciting is that!)

My last guest on the live show is someone I bloody love too. The amazing they/them noise wizard David Devereux. Such, a. Legend. They’re also in an upcoming not live EP, but when I saw I was doing this live show I knew that they would be a stellar live guest, to talk about creating the concept album of an audio drama…The Tower. Which yes. I pop up in. We recorded Season three over the summer and David has already edited it to sound glorious. The core cast of it…DAVID PELLOW, MARK GALLIE and of course the blooming brilliant KATRINA ALLEN . (HAVE YOU SEEN HER ON THE BBC SHOW STUNNERS? IT’S AAMMAAZINGGG) are ..just…perfect. I’m just a very very very little iccle part of it as mum but, oh my. I think. It is. Beautiful.

It’s probably from heat exhaustion. But. Huzzahs genuine smiles. 😃

PODCAST SPOTLIGHT(s)

If you like your horror you’d do no better than to enjoy the mystery and intrigue of HOW I DIED podcast. It really is a fun listen, with stellar voice acting and a groovy cast, and the edit team are sublime. I recently joined their discord and that’s fun too!

I can safely say I think Levant is the biggest bitch I’ve ever played. With essence of Orsham, Sheffield, General Fredericks and more, Levant’s lines were so delicious, you know I milked them for all they were worth 🤣. Also excited to see a former Quirky Voices voice acting course alumni killing it…as it were…in the cast. Please cast Vyn Vox in everything. He’s bloody briliant and I don’t feel anyone has truly tapped their potential awesome yet!

And in contrast. I love Winnie the Pooh. I do. I had it read to me as a kid and I read it to mine (inspired my Teddy Story stuff too) and….when the amazing Caroline Mincks asked me to be the narrator I was like

YOU MUST LISTEN TO THE GOBLET WIRE. It’s intriguing and the sound design really is painting those pictures with sounds (to ref the briliant Tal Minear’s workshop at podcast movement. (Do support Tal and ping a review for any shows they’re in. Some troll fascists are trying to be more than a nuisance and leaving crazy reviews so, if you gots the time, go support Tal. They work with me on making @audioauditions useful ( are you following us for auditions?) and are a stellar VA, Editor, writer and more as well as advocate for good and better inclusive practice in audio fiction. 💙
